Grammy winning rapper T.I. was back in court here in his native Atlanta today, pleading to be spared of further time behind bars. Nevertheless, a federal judge decided to revoke the musician’s probation due to a September drug arrest in Los Angeles. T.I. had been out on probation after serving 10 months for a weapons charge conviction.
T.I. and wife Tameka ‘Tiny’ Cottle were picked up on felony possession of a controlled substance through a routine traffic stop in L.A. last month. The famous rapper has already had his fair share of run-ins with the law. Arrested in 2007 on gun charges, he had just completed his jail-time this past December. He had been released on probation, where any sort of illegal activity would most likely result in his return to prison to finish out his sentence.
T.I. pleaded with the federal judge in Atlanta before the ruling, asking for mercy and saying he needed serious help to kick his drug addiction. Nevertheless, he was sentenced to an additional 11-month stint in prison for his original weapons conviction.
This week has been an emotional rollercoaster for the southern rapper. Just this past Wednesday in Atlanta, police say T.I. turned up “out of nowhere” when they were having trouble talking a man in his mid-twenties off the 22-story high Colony Square Hotel. He then proceeded to give the man a pep-talk, saying how life isn’t that bad and that a person “can make it through anything,” leaving police to wonder if they were in the presence of a rapper and convicted felon or a cartoon superhero.
This just goes to show a person’s true character can’t accurately be defined by any single action.
